The Labyrinth

Ever wonder if your intentions or thoughts actually make something happen?

I didn't until one Sunday afternoon on a beautiful horse ranch in California.

My Equus Coaching class was starting our final afternoon session of an intensive 4-day training. One of the facilitators asked me to get a horse named Desperado for our next round pen coaching session. I had heard about a labyrinth in the back of one of the pastures so I asked, "hey, can I run back real quick and take a peek at the labyrinth?”

Running short on time the facilitator said "not now, but I promise we can see it after we finish our day.” Satisfied, I went to catch Desperado.

As I entered the large pasture, I couldn't see him anywhere. I walked deeper and deeper into the pasture and lo and behold Desperado was standing smack in the center of the labyrinth!

No kidding. I'm not making this up. I was so happy that my friend and fellow classmate, Jenny, was there to witness this magic.

Coincidence? Or, did my intention, my energy and desire to see the labyrinth have anything to do with where Desperado wandered to in that moment?

I choose to believe in my own magic!

Snowflake Intentions

12/30/2015

When my clients step into the arena with a horse, I ask them to set an intention. Then I ask them to share their intention with me.  These two seemingly simple tasks hold tremendous power.

Most of us live in a continuous state of “doing” so when I ask clients to take a few minutes to set an intention, it’s like watching them hit the stop button just for a moment. Our busy minds are genius when it comes to conjuring up concrete goals to help us “do” more things.  But many people (including me) struggle to get clear on an intention for how we want to “be” in this world.

What if we woke up each day and asked ourselves “How do I want to feel today?” “What energy would I like to create in this world today?”

With the New Year beginning, I’m going to take my own coaching advice to set and intention for 2016 and to share it with you.

My intention came to me over the course of last week, in which I had a lot of time with my six year old son at home with no school.  Being a big-time “routine” person, it’s often difficult for me to turn off my work-mode to be fully present with my child.  I constantly find myself multi-tasking.

Yesterday, my sister took me and my son up to Mt. Hood to play in the snow. After one monster tackle from my little boy, I laid in the fresh, powdery snow and a twinkle caught my eye. I stopped for a minute and realized I was seeing perfectly shaped snowflakes laying on top of the snowdrift.

This took my breath away.

My intention came to me as I sat in the soft snow – slow down, simplify, and take the time to notice. The amount of pure joy I felt by the simple act of noticing these perfectly formed snowflakes was priceless.

That is how I want to feel every day. Intention set and shared.

Happy New Year everyone!
